Overview

The Housing & Neighborhood Development Department is part of the Community Development Division, located at 300-1 Industrial Avenue.

The purpose of the H & ND Department is to guide long-term housing goals to ensure that a variety of housing is available and provides a safe and quality place to live for those that live and work in Georgetown. The department was created in 2007 with the specific goal of making sure that there is variety of housing in Georgetown that is financially attainable for all. Responsibilities of this department include creating and updating the City’s Housing Plan, educating citizens on current housing affordability issues, applying for available grant funding, and administering a home repair program for low-income households.

Creation of the Housing Element of the Comprehensive Plan

The Housing Plan is an element of the City’s Comprehensive Plan, as required by the City Charter. A major revision to the City’s Comprehensive Plan began in 2006 with the 2030 Plan Vision Statement and Land Use Plan.  A preliminary draft of the Housing Element has been completed and is awaiting adoption in the 2030 Comprehensive Plan.

Home Repair Program

The City of Georgetown Home Repair Program has been established to provide home repairs to homeowners who are residents of the City of Georgetown and have limited resources. Funding is supplied by the City for eligible projects and applicants.

Please follow the process below to request home repair assistance:

  1. Fill out an application with the City of Georgetown. The City will then review the application make the determination as to whether you qualify for reimbursement of the cost of repairs to your home. Eligibility requirements include home ownership and low or no resources to conduct the work.
  2. If you meet the qualifications, and the funding is available, you will be notified that you have been approved to participate in the Home Repair Program, and you will need to solicit three (3) bids in writing for the work to be done and submit those bids to the City.
  3. You will then be notified by the City if your project has been approved or denied.
  4. You will then need to contract for the work with the low bidder.
  5. Itemized invoices shall be submitted to the City for payment.

Community Development Block Grants

The City of Georgetown is currently a participating city within the Williamson County Community Development Block Grant Consolidated Plan. As a participating city, Georgetown submits applications to receive an allocation of the funds granted the County by the Department of Housing and Urban Development. The county first became eligible to receive funding in 2005. To date Georgetown has received 3 allocations:

  • 2005: $85,000 Drainage and street infrastructure improvements by Old Mill Village
  • 2006: $50,000 Phase I of the Leander Street Project
  • 2007: $250,000 Phase II of the Leander Street Project
  • 2008: $179,595 for drainage and sidewalk improvements along 22nd Street between Leander Street and Railroad Avenue.
  • 2008: $120,000 for sidewalks along the north side of FM1460 from Austin Avenue to Quail Valley Road.

For the 2009 Fiscal Year (October 2009-September 2010) the City has an allocation approved for

  • $65,000 for sidewalk installation along Scenic Drive from State Highway 29 south to 17th Street.
